Welcome to the official website of Whiston Parish Church. We are a Church of England parish church in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. We stand at the heart of our community; serving Whiston Village, The Grange Estate, The Duke-of-Norfolk Estate; Upper Whiston, Morthen and other outlying areas.

Whiston Parish Church has been serving God and His people of Whiston and Upper Whiston for 800 years. It has been described as a 'hidden gem' of Rotherham because of its beautiful setting. All who visit receive a warm and joy-filled welcome. The Church is a place of prayer, of worship, and of Christian friendship and fellowship.

We welcome all with open arms and God's unconditional love to join our friendly congregation as we gather together in friendship, prayer and worship.

We are currently in a period of interregnum. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we seek God's guidance on the way forward.

Bishops Pete's Message - Weds, 1st April 2020

This is the day that the Lord has made; we will be glad and rejoice in it. (Ps.118.24)

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

This Sunday we celebrate the arrival of Christ in Jerusalem. We can join together at 9-45 , the usual time of our morning service, to do this in our homes or gardens using our palm crosses from last year (or even earlier). If you haven’t got one cut a small branch from a bush in the garden or cut one out from paper or card. Hold it and sing. Put it afterwards in your window.

All glory Laud and Honour
To thee, Redeemer, King
To whom the lips of children,
Made sweet hosannas ring.

Thou art the King of Israel,
thou David’s royal Son,
who in the Lord’s name comest,
The King and blessed one.

Many of you have said how much the bulletin means to you. This is a bumper edition. In the attachments you will find our usual Sunday reading sheet, an activity sheet from Lucy for younger readers (and maybe older ones as well!), a comment on the Gospel of the Liturgy of the palms (Patrick) and some prayers (Jan). There is also a list of opportunities to listen to or join in worship as well as a message from the Bishop of Sheffield.

The church building remains closed to everyone. There will therefore be no weddings or baptisms and no ceremony in church for a funeral.

The churchwardens Wendy and Alan are watching over our church building and keeping up to date with advice from the Bishop and Archdeacon. All of us have been trying to keep in touch by telephone and we hope you continue to feel part of Christ’s body in Whiston. Do ring us up if you want to talk.
